Event Types :
Join cookbook author Katie Farmand in the CHWB Nutrition Theatre as she makes three yummy chickpea recipes!

All hail the tiny, mighty chickpea! Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, have been a cherished part of Middle Eastern diets for centuries. In the Western world, until recently, you likely only encountered them on cold salad bars. Thankfully, those days have changed!

With a newfound appreciation for their affordable cost and dense nutritional benefits, chickpeas should be one of your pantry staples. Chickpeas are low in calories but high in protein and fiber, making them an ideal substitute for meat and other animal products. They’re also a great source of iron and have a low glycemic index, making them ideal for those living with or worried about diabetes.

Now that you know just some of the reasons why you should be incorporating chickpeas into your diet, come learn how! Join cookbook author Katie Farmand in the CHWB Nutrition Theatre, where she’ll be demonstrating (and you’ll be sampling) the following recipes: chickpea hash; crispy chickpeas; and Spanish-style chickpea and spinach soup.
