Join us in person for “Eight Great of the Sunshine State” on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 10:30 AM.

With first names like Zora, Marjorie, Harriett, Mary, and last names like Hurston, Stoneman Douglas, Bedell and Bethune, Florida’s female trailblazers paved the way for women rights, healthcare reform and civil rights. You can thank a Florida woman if you’ve ever learned about or felt compelled to visit the Everglades, received breast cancer treatment or attended a historically black college or university. In honor of Women’s History Month, we invite you to learn about and examine the lives and accomplishments of eight remarkable women who made their marks as Great Floridians.

Instructor Anne Gardepe, whose fields of interest lies in women’s history and the Sunshine State, will lead you in a lively, in-depth discussion focused on the women who not only changed the state of Florida but the world. Gardepe will present two female pioneers during each session in this series.

In this session, you’ll learn more about:

  • Zora Neale Hurston, author and key figure of the famed Harlem Renaissance, often called “a genius of the South”
  • Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Yearling”

This program is presented by Anne Gardepe and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.

A note regarding COVID-19 safety protocols: At this time, all guests at the Center for Health & Wellbeing are required to wear masks in all indoor spaces, including during our education programs. Presenters may remove their masks in order to be better heard by audience members. Attendees, however, must keep their masks fully in place (covering the nose and mouth) during the entire presentation. In accordance with CHWB guidelines, our programs will also be limited in capacity and rooms set to account for social distancing.

Canceling Your Reservation: If you are unable to attend a program, canceling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs, canceling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place. Canceling your reservation for this program is especially important as we are currently limiting capacities as part of our COVID-19 safety regulations. Canceling can be done in two easy ways: by calling 407.644.2492 and selecting Option 1, then Option 3 to speak to a representative or by using the online ticket cancellation option in your original confirmation email from Eventbrite.

By participating in this program, you agree to CHWB’s Gracious Space policy.
