Event Types :
Join Chris Hicks of Central Florida Community Arts in this creative writing class as she teaches you to create an original poem.

If one of your 2024 goals is to write more (or start writing in the first place), this workshop is for you.

In this creative writing class, you will be asked to think about your culture and how your cultural heritage is evident in your life. Under the careful guidance of teaching artist Chris Hicks of Central Florida Community Arts, writers will be encouraged to recall “ancestral stories” or stories passed down from parents or grandparents, in addition to other family stories associated with your name.

Participants will be coached in writing your own, original poem which explores and celebrates your identity. This class is open to writers of all levels. Feel free to bring your own writing journal. Paper and writing utensils will also be provided.

This program is presented by Chris Hicks and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.
