The Winter Park Health Foundation, AdventHealth and Central Florida Vocal Arts invite you to a unique and special event at the Center for Health & Wellbeing that celebrates the powerful intersection of the Arts in Health.

In advance of their upcoming shows at The Plaza Live, you are invited to a special preview of “The Light in the Piazza,” featuring musical performances by CFVA artists.

Based on the 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer, the show is set in the 1950s and tells the story of Margaret Johnson, a wealthy Southern woman, and Clara, her daughter, who is developmentally disabled due to a childhood accident. The two spend a summer together in Florence, Italy. When Clara falls in love with a young Italian man, Fabrizio, Margaret is forced to reconsider not only Clara’s future, but her own deep-seated hopes and regrets as well.

Throughout the performances at CHWB, we will host a panel discussion with board-certified music therapist Rich Abante Moats, MA, MT-BC, Director of Integrative & Creative Arts Therapies at AdventHealth and Jennifer Campbell, a speech language pathologist who is the Neuro Program Manager for AdventHealth Sports Medicine and Rehab, and the artists from CFVA. The panel will be moderated by CFVA Executive Director Theresa Smith-Levin. You will learn about the scientifically proven power of music on the brain and how the arts can nurture and support healing from a variety of injuries and health issues.

“The Light in the Piazza,” was the winner of six 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Original Score. CFVA’s production will be directed by lauded performer and director, Ayọ̀ Demps with music direction by the talented Philip King.

This is a special opportunity to enjoy some powerful performances while celebrating the transformative power of the arts on your health and wellbeing.

This program is presented by Central Florida Vocal Arts and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in collaboration with AdventHealth.

About the Presenters:

Central Florida Vocal Arts is a non-profit music advocacy organization dedicated to providing the highest quality training to young artists, while also providing performance opportunities to currently emerging artists of all ages. We are creating a continuing life cycle for the vocal arts in Central Florida through a three-step model. The first step, Education and Training, introduces young artists to the arts. Through our educational initiatives, we develop students’ talent, passion, and confidence. Next, our Mainstage Productions provide a transition period for students ages 8-18 and pre-professional adults to emerge on stage alongside local professional artists. Our life cycle culminates with Opera del Sol, offering innovative productions in unexpected places and challenging perceptions of who the operatic performer and audience members are and what defines the genre as a whole.
