Join us in person for Welcoming them Home: The UCF Veterans Oral History Project on Tuesday, April 26 at 1 PM in Community Conference Center

Do you have a U.S. military veteran in your life? Have you helped to preserve his or her story for history? Not only is doing so an important service to the community, but it is also a fantastic way to honor their service. Join Barbara A. Gannon, Ph.D., an associate professor of History at the University of Central Florida and the coordinator of the UCF Community Veterans History Project, as she shares details about the extraordinary work being done right here in our community to preserve these stories for generations to come, including other veterans-oriented initiatives, the Veterans Month of Honor and Remembrance at UCF and the Veterans School Supply Vault. The UCF Community Veterans History Project has collected hundreds of oral histories of Central Florida veterans. We invite you to tag along, hear of the real sacrifices by our nation’s soldiers and learn how to be a part of history.

By participating in this session, you can expect to learn:

  • about the scope of this project, which includes a diverse group of veterans — people of all races and ethnicities who served in America’s wars since World War II, including our most recent conflicts.
  • the types of combat and support units’ veterans served during peacetime and wartime.
  • learn how to participate in this project.

This program is presented by Dr. Barbara Gannon and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.
