5 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day with Mom While Social Distancing

Mother’s Day: 5 Ways to Celebrate with Mom While Social Distancing

May 5, 2020/0 Comments/in Wholeness /by Ailin Le Bellot

We know that during this difficult time, some celebrations are being rescheduled. But that doesn’t mean Mother’s Day is being cancelled this year. In fact, Mother’s Day this year will be that much more meaningful. The extra special day when we show the woman who raised us how much we care for her is just around the corner.

And thanks to our virtual and technological resources, like digital cards and online ordering, we have many ways to show our mothers—whether they’re amazing aunts, neighbors or friends—that they’re still that special lady in our lives. So, the Wellbeing Network team has compiled these five ways to celebrate Mother’s Day to show a mom you care, even if you’re not together:

#1: Arrange Breakfast in Bed

Make her heart full. A good way to start her day is with a hearty meal. Whether you’re sending a delivery with her favorite coffee and pastries or making and dropping off her favorite breakfast items, give mom a much-needed day off from cooking her own meal. Ordering her favorite takeout for lunch or dinner are also added bonuses. Keeping to a six-foot distance, you can drop off breakfast at her front door personally or have a delivery made to her.

#2: Lighten Up Her Home

Lift her spirits. While you’re dropping off a nice Mother’s Day card and breakfast, you can also take some time to decorate her front door with adorable decorations of balloons, garlands, spring wreaths and signs to show her just how much she means to you today, and every day. There are many Mother Day decorations online you can order from. There are also pick-ups you can do from your nearby store to dress up her brunch table!

#3: Watch a Virtual Movie Together

They say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. We say, a feel-good movie makes your heart bond with another’s. This is why one of the top ways to celebrate mom is by spending some quality time together enjoying a mother-daughter movie date. Tearjerkers like “Steel Magnolias” or “The Way We Were” do the trick. Find her favorite movie. Package up her favorite candy, bags of popcorn and materials for her go-to cocktail drink in a box to send to her. Set up a time to get on the phone with her and start your movie together, or join one of these many platforms to stream your film.

#4: Send Flowers or a Personalized Gift Basket

Send her a few of her favorite things… You can never go wrong with sending mom a bouquet of her favorite flowers. If you have a garden of flowers, you can certainly pick them. But there are flowers she rarely receives and then there are gifts she’s never purchased for herself. Make her feel even more important with a personalized tote bag, dropping in items for her like homemade body scrub, bath bombs or her favorite perfume. Give mom something she’ll love (like a day of relaxation or a bouquet of roses), but something you know she won’t buy herself.

#5: Gift a Virtual Wine or Cheese Tasting Course

Wine and dine her… from afar. Grabbing a nice bottle of wine or a cheese platter for mom isn’t enough anymore. At least not during the challenging, social distancing era that we’re currently living in. But that’s no excuse to avoid wining and dining that incredible person who has brought life into this world. Give her a wine or cheese tasting course like one she’s never experienced before. Virtual wine and cheese tasting courses have become increasingly popular. You can either pick up your tasting kit or have the company deliver their tasting kits to you both. With your tasting kits, on the day of your program, you and mom will be able to participate through video conferencing. You can also take a class of a favorite pastime she has always wanted to do. Choose a class she has never had the time for. Quarantine is the best time to take advantage of time together!
