Tips & Tricks for How to Balance Fitness & Fun This Holiday Season

Balancing fitness and fun during the holidays can feel like a full-time job. Between holiday gatherings, gift shopping, events, and other priorities, our fitness and wellbeing can fall by the wayside. Here are five tips for how you can prioritize fitness while still having fun this holiday.

1. Re-Organize Your Fitness & Wellbeing Goals

It’s okay to adjust your fitness goals while trying to balance your holiday schedule. When a 60-minute exercise doesn’t make it on the schedule, see if a 30-minute HIIT workout does. A HIIT workout, high-intensity interval training, incorporates several repetitions that alternate between minutes of high-intensity movements to significantly increase the heart rate, allowing a full workout in a shorter period of time.

2. Prioritize Bodyweight Workouts

If the gym isn’t on the horizon, use bodyweight workouts at home to still incorporate fitness into your daily routine. Squats, lunges, burpees, and pushups are all examples of bodyweight workouts that you can perform at home.

3. Make Self-Care a Priority

While fitness is important during the holidays, so is self-care. Self-care looks different for each person. It can be taking a spa day, committing to a meditation routine, or reading a book. Make sure your self-care sessions make it on the schedule during the holidays.

4. Create a Healthy Family Tradition

One of the best ways to stay active during the holidays is to make it a family affair. Take the family on a nature walk, participate in a local holiday run/walk, or adventure a family bike ride. Find the perfect fitness activity for you and your family and create a new healthy holiday tradition the entire family will enjoy.

5. Fitness While Traveling

Fitness doesn’t have to stop while traveling. Squeeze in a stretch session at the airport before you board a flight, take a break at the rest stop to get a quick exercise in on your road trip, and utilize virtual workouts while staying with family and friends.
