Nourish Your Body with Superfood Ingredients at Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen

Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen, the health-focused café inside the Center for Health & Wellbeing, uses fresh, organic, and whole ingredients throughout its menu, leading the community to make healthier choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Nourish prioritizes the use of superfoods and whole ingredients like berries, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, leafy greens, vegetables (like bell pepper and red onion), chicken, and fish. Let’s take a look at some of the menu items at Nourish and see which ingredients are used to help Nourish your body while leaving your tastebuds wanting more.

Breakfast – Rise and Shine Parfait

Nourish opens Monday through Friday at 8:00 AM, ready to serve their first customer. The Rise and Shine Parfait on the Nourish Grab-n-Go menu is made with Greek yogurt, organic chia seeds, natural vanilla, and a seasonal fruit compote. Greek yogurt is a thick and creamy yogurt that is made through a straining process to remove whey. Whey is a liquid that contains lactose, a common type of sugar found in most dairy products, like yogurt. Greek yogurt can be used to make parfaits and is a great substitute for different cream-based products like sour cream, but it also has many health benefits. Greek yogurt is high in calcium and protein, boosting bone health and building muscle mass. It has many probiotics and is low in sugar which can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. The Rise and Shine Parfait also has chia seeds, an excellent fiber source. Using chia seeds in your everyday diet can improve heart health, reduce cholesterol levels, and help improve gut health. Because fiber takes longer to digest, it keeps you satisfied longer, leading to possible weight loss and can decrease your risk of developing diabetes or heart disease. Starting the morning with the Rise and Shine Parfait is a great way to stay full from this fiber-packed breakfast option from Nourish.

Lunch – Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable & Feta Salad

When deciding what to order at Nourish for lunch, try the vitamin-packed Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable & Feta Salad. This salad is packed with grilled zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper, red onion, vine tomato, garlic, feta cheese, kalamata olives, arugula, and a homemade basil dressing. Bell peppers are rich in antioxidants and vitamins C, E, and beta-carotene. Beta-carotene, when digested, can reduce the risk of cancer. Red onions contain quercetin, an antioxidant that fights inflammation and boosts the immune system. Feta cheese has one of the highest calcium counts of any type of cheese, which can help maintain healthy bones. The Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable & Feta Salad is a healthy and delicious lunch or dinner item to try on your next visit to Nourish.

Dinner – Superfoods Power Bowl

Similar to the Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable & Feta Salad, the Superfood Power Bowl is vitamin-packed with plant-based ingredients like red quinoa, edamame, orzo, cucumber, cherry tomato, red pepper, baby spinach, and broccoli. Order the power bowl with grilled chicken breast, teriyaki roasted salmon, or garlic and chili roasted butternut squash to boost your protein intake. Chicken is a good source of lean protein and can build stronger muscles and promote healthier bones while decreasing the risk of injuries and conditions such as osteoporosis. Salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of heart-healthy fat that can decrease inflammation. Adding butternut squash to the Superfoods Power Bowl can help lower blood pressure – butternut squash is high in potassium.

Post Work-Out Fuel – Smoothies

Grab a Nourish smoothie after your workout at the Crosby Wellness Center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility inside the Center for Health & Wellbeing, for a quick protein boost, Nourish offers four smoothies: Power Berry, Green Machine, Perfectly Peach, and Monkey Joe. A scoop of whey or vegan protein can be added to each of these, making it the perfect protein-rich snack for after a workout. Eating protein after a workout is essential to recovery. It helps create muscle protein and enhances performance during your next gym session.
