Mary Cox, Ph.D., Joins Winter Park Health Foundation Staff

Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) is pleased to announce Mary Cox, Ph.D. has joined the organization as Program Director.  In her new role at WPHF, Dr. Cox will guide programming for the Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center, including the pursuit of  Medical Fitness Association certification for the facility.

With extensive education and experience in health promotion, exercise science, and public health, Dr. Cox is the ideal choice to assist the Foundation in planning programs and establishing policies for the Crosby Wellness Center when it reopens in the Center for Health & Wellbeing late 2018. Dr. Cox has degrees in Public Health (Ph.D., West Virginia University), Exercise Physiology (M.S., West Virginia University), Health Education & Nutrition (B.S., Marshall University) and Therapeutic Recreation (B.S., West Virginia State University).

In her new role as Program Director at WPHF, Mary Cox, Ph.D., will continue to guide plans for the Crosby Wellness Center when it reopens late 2018 in the Center for Health & Wellbeing.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Cox was an Associate Executive Director for the YMCA of Central Florida. She managed the Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center until it was closed late 2016 to make way for construction of its new facility within the Center for Health & Wellbeing. She moved to Florida from Ohio where she worked for the YMCA of Central Ohio and the YMCA of Greater Cleveland leading efforts related to corporate wellness and community health promotion.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Cox served as Director of Health Education, Recreation and Wellness at two higher education institutions – Worcester Polytechnic Institute (MA) and Denison University (OH). She also held Exercise Physiologist and Recreation Therapist positions at healthcare and rehabilitation facilities.

Dr. Cox is an active member of several international/national organizations including the Medical Fitness Association, National Association of Public Health Professionals, National Therapeutic Recreation Association, and American College of Sports Medicine.
