Senior Resource Alliance Falls Prevention Day

Falls continue to be a national public health concern, but falls do NOT have to be a given for older adults. In celebration of National Falls Prevention Awareness Week, the Center for Health & Wellbeing and the Senior Resource Alliance are joining forces to educate, empower and inspire older adults to minimize their risks for falls and maximize their future health, happiness and independence. Join us for a day of workshops and demonstrations, including a live Tai Chi session with internationally renowned Australian physician Dr. Paul Lam, director of Tai Chi for Health Institute and creator of a number of Tai Chi for Health programs that have improved the health and wellness of millions of people.

Here’s a rundown of the day’s activities:

8:30 a.m.: Doors open: coffee and light breakfast to be served
9-9:15: Welcome remarks from Karla Radka, President and CEO of Senior Resource Alliance, and Deb Watson, Executive Vice President, Winter Park Health Foundation
9:15-10 a.m.: Dr. Paul Lam’s remarks
10:15-10:55 a.m.: Dr. Lam’s Tai Chi demonstration/workshop
11-11:45 a.m.: Lecture on Nutrition + Aging from Celines Martinez, Registered Dietitian, Hebni Nutrition Consultants
11:45 a.m. -12:30: Break for attendees to enjoy complementary snacks from Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen, plus an opportunity to visit with our partners from local older adult service organizations
12:30-1:30 p.m.: Balance 101 program hosted by Joy Henderson from Crosby Wellness Center
