This special series, presented in collaboration between the Winter Park Health Foundation and AdventHealth, is designed to give you the tools you need to get started on this journey. Throughout this seven-week series of workshops, you’ll learn the latest in healthy living research from those studying it deeply – AdventHealth University Community Health Nursing students.
Each week, the NURS440 students, in collaboration with their instructors, these future leaders in health care will present the latest information on health-related topics, organized under the umbrella of the renowned CREATION Health principles. Each session will also kick off with useful screenings, such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, etc.

On September 22, we’ll focus on Choice.
Choice is the power to control your life. Consistently making wise decisions is key to becoming the person you were created to be. The decisions people make (good and bad) are constantly changing the world around us. But Choice doesn’t originate in the world around us. It begins within the mind, in the frontal lobe to be exact. This is where our judgment, reasoning, social norms and long-term planning take place. These all contribute to making healthy, life-giving choices. Human reasoning and planning capabilities are more powerful and complex than those of other species, which allows for informed decision making.
Studies have shown that people who believe they have control over their own lives are healthier, happier and live longer. This is the power of Choice at work. This belief is reflected in everything they do – the goals they set, the habits they form and the balance they find in their lives.
