Digital Education Programming Presented by the
Center for Health & Wellbeing
More and more families are dealing with the care of their elderly relatives and end-of-life decisions. These needs and decisions can often cause conflict between caregivers and their elder relative. How can families avoid these common pitfalls and conflicts? For starters, identifying each other’s fears and concerns over these challenges can help improve communication and avoid power struggles between you and your loved one. By understanding the experience of your older loved ones, you will be better equipped to address any crises or long-term concerns.
In this virtual workshop, Licensed Mental Health Counselor Alison Issen will share useful communication and negotiation strategies that address common issues families experience with their older loved one.
In this program, you can also expect to:
- understand the developmental tasks of older adulthood and its impact on the elder’s fears and concerns.
- learn how to negotiate a balance between autonomy and safety in eldercare issues.
- learn communication and planning strategies for successful family meetings.
This program is presented by Alison Issen, licensed mental health counselor, and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.
