SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Meditation: Non-striving and Patience
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Mindfulness and Meditation: Non-striving and Patience” on Monday\, August 1 at 7 PM. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial Note: Participants are encouraged to attend each week session of the four-week program\, but it is not a requirement. You may sign up for any of the four programs without attending the others. \nThis four-week program with Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco will introduce you to the concepts of mindfulness and meditation. You’ll learn practical tips and simple tools to transform your home and work life into the place it deserves to be. Each week\, you’ll learn a little something different about mindfulness and meditation. \nIn order to cultivate a true understanding and get the most out of your practice\, it’s important for your mind to be open and receptive. This will ensure that learning and change can occur. The attitude you bring to your practice is crucial. It is the soil in which we will effectively cultivate daily practices that will inspire confidence in the pursuit of living our lives with a higher purpose. \nEach session\, you’ll discuss two attitudes and how they relate to mindfulness. You will also practice a meditation and have time at the end of the class for discussion and takeaways. Together\, this will constitute the foundation upon which you will be able to build a strong mindful meditation practice of your own. \nIn addition to meditations\, you’ll also experience a Crystal Bowl Sound Bath. Part meditation\, part listening exercise\, Sound Baths are healing musical performances played with crystal singing bowls and chimes. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nIn week one\, you will cover: \nAttitudes: Non-striving and Patience. Meditation: Awareness of Breath \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. She is also a graduate of the acclaimed Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course. Sacco is the author of two self-help books\, “Hippie banker: Bringing Peace\, Love and Spirituality to the Workplace” and her latest book\, “Firefly Culture: Illuminate Your Workplace by Tuning in to Mindfulness.” She leads fun and informative classes and workshops on mindful meditations and her coaching sessions are infused with down-to-Earth guidance. She is both informative and fun in her approach. Her goal is to help people tap in to the wisdom of their soul by cultivating daily practices that will inspire confidence in the pursuit of living their lives with a higher purpose. SUMMARY:Pilates Reformer Basics
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking to achieve core stability and good posture? Or increase your flexibility while building strength? In this program\, led by Loren Weiland\, an expert instructor at Crosby Wellness Center\, you’ll learn the ins-and-outs of the Pilates reformer\, a training machine that creates resistance to work every muscle in your body. Recent research has shown that regular reformer exercises offer greater shoulder and lower back strength\, plus a decreased chance of falling in people over 65. The reformer is also versatile enough for a full-body workout in less than an hour\, while helping you to build the stretch\, stamina\, and stability of a healthy\, strong body. \nLoren will also discuss additional benefits of adding the Pilates reformer into your regular workout routine and will answer any questions you have about its use and impact. \nThis program is demonstration only; attendees will not be getting on the reformer in this session. However\, following this informational session\, you will have the opportunity to schedule a free\, 15-minute demo session to try it out for yourself. \nThis program is presented by Loren Weiland and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center at the Center for Health & Wellbeing. \nAbout the Presenter \nLoren Weiland is a certified Pilates reformer instructor and teaches Pilates reformer classes to a variety of groups at the Crosby Wellness Center. SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Meditation: Beginner's Mind and Trust
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Mindfulness and Meditation: Beginner’s Mind and Trust” on Monday\, August 15 at 7 PM.\n\n\nSpecial Note: Participants are encouraged to attend each weekly session of the four-week program\, but it is not a requirement. You may sign up for any of the four programs without attending the others. \nThis three-week program with Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco will introduce you to the concepts of mindfulness and meditation. With that\, the attitude you bring to your practice is crucial. It is the soil in which we will effectively cultivate daily practices that will inspire confidence in the pursuit of living our lives with a higher purpose. \nEach session\, we will discuss two attitudes and how they relate to mindfulness. We will also practice a meditation and leave time at the end of the class for discussion and takeaways. Together\, this will constitute the foundation upon which you will be able to build a strong mindful meditation practice of your own. \nIn addition to meditations\, we will also experience a Crystal Bowl Sound Bath. \nIn week two\, you will cover: \n\nAttitudes: Beginner’s Mind and Trust\nMeditation: Body Scan\n\nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Sacco is the author of two self-help books\, “Hippiebanker: Bringing Peace\, Love and Spirituality to the Workplace” and her latest book\, “Firefly Culture: Illuminate Your Workplace by Tuning in to Mindfulness.” She leads fun and informative classes and workshops on mindful meditations and her coaching sessions are infused with down-to-Earth guidance. She is both informative and fun in her approach. Her goal is to help people tap in to the wisdom of their soul by cultivating daily practices that will inspire confidence in the pursuit of living their lives with a higher purpose. SUMMARY:CHWB Book Club\, Session 4: 'Quiet' by Susan Cain
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “CHWB Book Club\, Session 4: ‘Quiet’ by Susan Cain” on Thursday August 18\, 2022 at 11 AM. \nA book club can have several goals at once\, including the social aspect of getting together with others in a relaxed setting and the focused activity of discussing various elements of a particular book that everyone in the group has (mostly) read. A recent survey by BookBrowse of over 5\,500 individuals engaged in book clubs across the country reported that survey responders highlighted both the value of discussion focused on the chosen book AND the social nature of the group. In the latest session of our yearlong CHWB Book Club\, you’ll join Dr. Annette Kelly\, an avid reader\, and the board president of Neighbors Network\, who aims to help you do both!   \nOr are you an extrovert or introvert?  Do we really understand these often-used descriptions of ourselves and others? How and why did extroversion become the sought after and frequently praised personality type?  “Quiet\,” Susan Cain’s thoughtful and well-researched book\, will have you thinking\, especially if you are drawn to thinking\, creating\, and understanding yourself and others.   \nRead “Quiet” by Susan Cain and make plans to join the CHWB Book Club for a lively discussion led by Dr Annette Kelly\, current board president of the local nonprofit Neighbors Network.   \nSpecial Note: Participants are asked to borrow or purchase the paperback of the featured book prior to the program’s start date. Book clubs work well when participants have read the book\, but this is not a requirement. Being open to the opinions and reflections of others is important\, as is staying on topic. Other elements of a “good” discussion: making room for everyone who wishes to speak\, being attentive when others are speaking\, not interrupting\, or arguing\, and encouraging less talkative members to join in. \nMark Your Calendars and Stay Tuned: The CHWB Book Club will meet on the following dates in 2022: October 20 and December 15. Book selection details and registration options to come! This program is presented by Dr. Annette Kelly and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.  \n About the Program Presenter\nAnnette Kelly currently volunteers as the board president of Neighbors Network\, a local non-profit\, whose mission is the independence\, engagement\, and connectedness of older adults in our community. She is also a retired nurse practitioner and nursing professor with experience locally as the former CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was the former assistant professor of Nursing at Florida Southern College. Kelly is an avid reader who has been married 58 years and enjoys spending time with her four children and four grandchildren.

SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Meditation:Non-Judging and Acceptance
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Mindfulness and Meditation: Non-Judging and Acceptance” on Monday\, August 22 at 7 PM.\n\n\nSpecial Note: Participants are encouraged to attend each weekly session of the four-week program\, but it is not a requirement. You may sign up for any of the four programs without attending the others. \nThis three-week program with Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco will introduce you to the concepts of mindfulness and meditation. \nIn week three you will cover: \n\nAttitudes: Non-Judging and Acceptance\n\n\nMeditation: Mountain Meditation\n\nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Making a Difference: Serving Others While Nurturing Ourselves” on Tuesday\, August 30 at 11 AM.\n\n\nAt some basic level\, each of us knows that our fundamental wellbeing is inseparable from the wellbeing of the world. If we isolate ourselves and disconnect from the suffering of those around us\, we are actually disconnecting from ourselves. In this workshop\, led by licensed mental health counselor Alison Issen\, you will explore the rhythms of compassion\, and ways of balancing our own needs with the vast needs of those we serve. We can learn to take care of ourselves while deepening our capacity and motivation for compassionate action in our world. \nAfter attending this session\, participants will be able to: \n— Define and recognize symptoms of burnout and compassion fatigue \n— Differentiate proactive vs. reactive responses in difficult situations \n— Explore methods of self-renewal which will support them in their compassionate outreach with others \nThis program is presented by Alison Issen and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \n  \nCancelling Your Reservation: If you are unable to attend a program\, cancelling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs\, canceling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place. SUMMARY:Yoga for Menopause
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Yoga for Menopause” on Tuesday\, August 30 at 6 PM.\n\n\nLearn to support your journey through menopause with yoga. In this program\, Crosby Wellness Center’s certified group exercise and yoga instructor Dawn Marie will discuss this important time in a woman’s life. Then\, Dawn Marie will showcase yoga moves to aid your transition through perimenopause\, menopause and beyond. \nDuring menopause\, many women can lose bone density as estrogen lowers and belly fat distributes. It’s also often a time where women experience trouble sleeping\, hot flashes\, digestion issues and even fuzzy mind. After a brief discussion\, you’ll hit the mat with several gentle poses for a smooth natural transition. This program will help balance some of these menopause-specific issues naturally and improve your mood. \nSpecial Instructions: Please bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing. Yoga blocks and towels will be provided. \nSchedule update: AdventHealth’s Brittany Burns-Vu\, APRN\, a nurse practitioner and member of the gynecologic surgery practice\, was originally scheduled to join Dawn Marie for this program. Due to a schedule conflict\, she is unable to attend but will be presenting at the Yoga for Menopause program on Wednesday\, Sept. 21 at 7 pm. Click here to register for that session.  \nThis class is presented by Dawn Marzlock and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nDawn Marie has been a certified Hatha Yoga instructor for 20 years. Fifteen of those years she has been on staff teaching various programs on yoga\, balance and meditation at the Crosby Wellness Center.
