Niles\, Ph.D.\, is the chair of the Health Professions department and program director for the undergraduate Healthcare Management major at Rollins College. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate health related courses. Prior to her arrival at Rollins College\, she taught in two undergraduate business schools located in small liberal arts colleges. Her related work experience includes a directorship of a multi-million-dollar New York state health program\, and as a consultant for small businesses. She was also a Peace Corps volunteer for two tours in Senegal\, West Africa\, where she managed health and business projects. During her second Peace Corps tour\, she was appointed to manage an economic development project for the U.S. Ambassador. Her research areas of interest include medical and business ethics\, strategic planning\, social media health care marketing\, and the impact of health policy on organizations. She enjoys writing textbooks. She believes that we are never too old to learn and loves teaching students of all ages.

You can thank a Florida woman if you’ve ever learned about or felt compelled to visit the Everglades\, received breast cancer treatment or attended a historically black college or university. In honor of Women’s History Month\, we invite you to learn about and examine the lives and accomplishments of eight remarkable women who made their marks as Great Floridians. \nInstructor Anne Gardepe\, whose fields of interest lies in women’s history and the Sunshine State\, will lead you in a lively\, in-depth discussion focused on the women who not only changed the state of Florida but the world. It is also about having a high literacy rate. A lack of health literacy can have consequences for a patient’s personal health. Patients with low health literacy are more likely to visit the emergency room\, have more hospital visits and are less likely to follow treatment plans. Tose numbers may seem bleak but prioritizing health literacy can combat being a statistic. \nJoin Heather Surrency\, Health and Financial Literacy Coordinator at the Florida Literacy Coalition Center\, in this program focused on self-efficiency\, empowerment and learning how to make informed decisions for healthy aging. Surrency will not guide you in making strategic decisions about your health and wellbeing but equip you with the necessary information to remain fully in control of your future. She is a public health professional with more than 15 years of experience in Public Health Promotion and Education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining the Coalition\, Surrency spent 12 years at Georgia Tech as the director of the Department of Health Promotion and as an instructor of an undergraduate preventative healthcare course. \nAbout the Presenting Organization  \nAbout the Florida Literacy Coalition Center (FLC)  \nEstablished in 1985\, the FLC promotes\, supports and advocates for the effective delivery of quality adult and family literacy services in the state of Florida. \nAs a statewide umbrella literacy organization and the host of Florida’s State Literacy Resource Center\, FLC provides a range of services to support more than 300 adult education\, literacy and family literacy providers throughout Florida. After which\, he traveled to more than 30 countries extensively with some of the world’s most renowned Irish dance shows. Magennis opened his academy in January of 2020 and has now around 70 children between his Orlando and Melbourne locations\, where he teaches dance five times a week. Issen has a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida\, and is a licensed mental health counselor\, as well as a registered nurse. She is recently retired as the outpatient counselor at Orlando Health/UF Health Cancer Center. For several years\, she coordinated the Sage-ing Center\, a program which encourages and supports adults of all ages\, but particularly those in the second half of life\, to inventory\, evaluate and intentionally plan a life of purpose\, learning\, fulfillment and community service. She brought this comprehensive program to the hospice several years ago and developed Hospice of the Comforter’s Quality of Life Education Program. Issen has taught Psychology at the college level and has worked in the field of health and wellness for more than 35 years\, including more than 10 years as a hospice nurse and counselor. Her areas of specialty include Stress Management\, Grief and Loss\, End-of-Life\, Aging and Relationship Issues\, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and Positive Psychology. Beyond her professional life\, Issen is an “extreme gardener\,” volunteers at a local animal shelter and performs with local singing and theatre groups.

Wright joined the Winter Park Health Foundation\, owner of the Crosby Wellness Center and co-owner and primary developer of the CHWB\, in March 2019. As the wellbeing guide\, she works directly with community members providing wellbeing coaching and consultation. Wright makes suggestions\, provides educational resources\, and links each person to programs and services suited to attain health and wellbeing goals safely and smartly. She also creates an individualized plan and provides motivational support as each community member works to achieve success along their personal wellbeing journey. Wright has more than 20 years of professional experience\, including the following areas of expertise: Social Services\, Health Education\, Community Relations\, Management\, Personal Training\, and Fitness Coaching. She earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and two bachelor’s degrees. She is passionate about helping others reach their goals and achieve self-empowerment.

Studies show that it can take hundreds of years for landfill waste to decompose. \nJoin PureCycle Chief of Staff Adrianna Sekula to discover how organizations like PureCycle are using ground-breaking patented technologies that recycle all forms of waste\, allowing us to change the waste cycle from a linear model to a closed -loop system. Sekula leads global communications\, including public affairs\, for PureCycle. Before joining PureCycle\, Sekula managed and influenced local government relations in Central Florida for Walt Disney World. Prior to that\, she served as the government affairs director at the Greater Orlando Builders Association where she focused on local land use\, development\, and residential construction. Sekula also served as the associate director of government affairs at PACE Center for Girls\, Inc.\, working to ensure funding and smart policy in the fields of education and juvenile justice and has managed a successful Florida House campaign. Sekula is the current board chair of the Kissimmee Osceola County Chamber of Commerce\, a PACE Center for Girls board member\, and an active member of the Florida Executive Women of Central Florida. Sekula holds a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from Florida State University and is a graduate of Leadership Tallahassee and Leadership Orlando. DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Proper Posture and Alignment” on Thursday\, February 24 at 1 PM in Community Conference Room A.\n\n\nGood posture is more than just standing up straight –it’s an important part of your long-term health. Learn how to achieve better posture and alignment through this engaging\, interactive session led by Crosby Wellness Center Director Matt Noe. Noe will demonstrate how to strengthen your core from the inside out and alleviate pain and discomfort all while standing taller and stronger. \nThis program is presented by Matt Noe and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center. \nA note regarding COVID-19 safety protocols: At this time\, all guests at the Center for Health & Wellbeing are required to wear masks in all indoor spaces\, including during our education programs. Presenters may remove their masks in order to be better heard by audience members. Attendees\, however\, must keep their masks fully in place (covering the nose and mouth) during the entire presentation. In accordance with CHWB guidelines\, our programs will also be limited in capacity and rooms set to account for social distancing. \nCancelling Your Reservation: If you are unable to attend a program\, cancelling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs\, cancelling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place. Cancelling your reservation for this program is especially important as we are currently limiting capacities as part of our COVID-19 safety regulations. Crosby Wellness Center in Winter Park\, FL. Noe has 15 years of experience in the health and wellness industry. He holds Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management and is also an American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer. He also holds advanced certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist\, Performance Enhance Specialist\, Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Functional Training Specialist. He is also a registered yoga instructor. \nAbout the Peggy & Philip B.
