SUMMARY:In the Kitchen with Edible Orlando: Low Glycemic Cooking
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “In the Kitchen with Edible Orlando: Low Glycemic Cooking ” on Tuesday\, September 20 at 11 AM.\n\n\nThe Glycemic Index (GI) is a system doctors use to measure carbohydrates in specific foods and to quantify how these foods raise blood sugar levels. In other words – not all carbs are created equal\, and this set of guidelines helps people swap foods higher on the GI scale with alternatives that have lower numbers. Numerous studies have shown low GI diets can reduce blood sugar levels (something especially important for those with diabetes)\, lower the risk of heart disease\, aid in weight loss\, and lower cholesterol. One of the best parts of low glycemic cooking is it’s easy to follow\, once you learn which swaps to make. In this live\, interactive cooking program\, Edible Orlando Magazine Editor Katie Farmand will demonstrate delicious recipes highlighting low GI foods while inspiring you to focus on your health\, starting in the kitchen. \nWhile attending this program\, participants will receive a booklet for the following demonstrated recipes: \n\nGinger broth with chicken meatballs\nBarley Tabbouleh\nDark chocolate-nut clusters\n\nThis is a demonstration-style cooking program\, so prepare to sit back\, relax and let our chef prepare the meal while you enjoy delicious items. \nPlease note: Registration for all cooking programs close 72 hours in advance so our chefs have time to prepare ingredients accordingly. No walk-ins allowed. \nThis program is presented by Katie Farmand and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in collaboration with Edible Orlando. \nCancelling Your Reservation: If you are unable to attend a program\, cancelling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs\, cancelling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place. Canceling your reservation for this program is especially important as most of our programs have limited capacities. Cancelling can be done in two easy ways: by calling 407.644.2492 and selecting Option 1\, then Option 3 to speak to a representative or by using the online ticket cancellation option in your original confirmation email from Eventbrite. \nBy participating in this program\, you agree to CHWB’s Gracious Space policy. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nKatie Farmand has been the editor of Edible Orlando magazine for the last 11 years. She is a recipe developer and is the co-author of “Field to Feast” and “Good Catch\,” cookbooks with a focus on Florida farms and seafood. \nAbout the Presenting Organization \nEdible Orlando magazine provides recipes\, tips\, hyperlocal food stories and more. They tell the stories of the Central Florida food scene. The magazine is rooted in the notion that saving room in our busy lives and tight budgets to eat a little more local food has great benefits. Buying real food from locally owned businesses strengthens the economy\, supports Florida’s farmers and fishermen\, and keeps the community and the environment healthy. And when you sit down at the table with your friends and family – either at home or at your favorite restaurant – you can really taste the difference.

SUMMARY:Crystal Bowl Sound Meditation for Community + Connection - Sept 12
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Crystal Bowl Sound Meditation for Community + Connection” on Monday\, September 12 at 7 PM.\n\n\nJoin Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection to learn the basics of meditation and to experience a crystal bowl sound bath. \nPart meditation\, part listening exercise\, Sound Baths are healing musical performances played with crystal singing bowls and chimes. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater.
