SUMMARY:Women’s Empowerment
DESCRIPTION:Join the CHWB Women’s Empowerment Workshop to explore unhelpful cultural messages that serve as barriers to prioritizing your own wellbeing. During this workshop\, yoga instructors Katie DeAscanis and Miranda Harris will incorporate meditation\, conversation\, a low-intensity yoga practice\, and self-inquiry to help deconstruct unhelpful messages and create more authentic ways of being. No yoga experience is necessary. \nDuring this class\, you’ll explore a deeper understanding of self in the context of our various intersecting identities. Plus\, you’ll learn how meditation and breath-work techniques can be used as tools for self-regulation and wellbeing. \nParticipants will walk away from their time in this program with a community of supportive and encouraging women and a better understanding of how to take care of themselves in a world that demands so much. \nProgram Notes: Please bring your own yoga mat and water to this workshop. We will be serving infused water\, herbal tea and cookies from Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen. \nCancelling Your Reservation: In order to receive a full refund\, participants must cancel their program registration at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled start of the program. Center for Health & Wellbeing’s Refund Policy \nThis program is presented by Katie DeAscanis and Miranda Harris and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center. \n About the Presenters:    \nMiranda became inspired to learn more about yoga philosophy while traveling across India in 2017. She later enrolled in year-long yoga teacher training with the intention to deepen her personal practice. She quickly found a passion for teaching and went on to complete her 500 hour yoga teacher training at Warrior One in Orlando\, FL. Miranda utilizes mindfulness and purposeful movement to creatively and carefully guide students into their bodies. Above all\, she believes yoga should be accessible to all humans. She incorporates modifications and props in her teachings to safely challenge and inspire students. Miranda is currently pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Rollins College. \nKatie DeAscanis is a Crosby Wellness Center yoga instructor and Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. After a successful 10-year career in corporate sales and marketing\, she took the leap to follow her true passion — creating a space for people to explore themselves and grow in ways that will help them reach their goals. Katie has been teaching yoga since 2018 and she co-led the Crosby Wellness Center’s inaugural Women’s Empowerment Series earlier this year with great success. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process. Visit YourHealthandWellbeing.org/waiverandrelease for more details.

SUMMARY:CHWB Book Club: "Being Mortal"
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce the CHWB Book Club is back! \nA book club can have several goals at once\, including the social aspect of getting together with others in a relaxed setting and the focused activity of discussing various elements of a particular book that everyone in the group has (mostly) read. A survey by BookBrowse of over 5\,500 individuals engaged in book clubs across the country reported that survey responders highlighted both the value of discussion focused on the chosen book AND the social nature of the group. \, \nOur CHWB Book Club facilitator Dr. Annette Kelly\, an avid reader and founder and recently retired Board President of Neighbors Network\, aims to help you do both! \nFor our October Book Club selection\, we will be reading and discussing “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End” by Atul Gawande. Published in 2014 and available in paperback\, this bestselling\, groundbreaking book changed the way we discuss death and dying. \nIn addition to this focused title discussion\, we will have time for sharing recently read books… a great way to find your next read!! \nSpecial Note: Participants are asked to borrow or purchase the featured book prior to the program’s start date. Book clubs work well when participants have read the book\, but this is not a requirement. Being open to the opinions and reflections of others is important\, as is staying on topic. Other elements of a “good” discussion: making room for everyone who wishes to speak\, being attentive when others are speaking\, not interrupting\, or arguing\, and encouraging less talkative members to join in. \nThis program is presented by Dr. Annette Kelly and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:   \nAnnette Kelly\, Ph.D.\, retired as the board president of Neighbors Network\, a local non-profit\, whose mission is the independence\, engagement\, and connectedness of older adults in our community. Annette writes the monthly column “The View From Here” in our local Community Paper.  She is a retired nurse practitioner and nursing professor. Kelly is an avid reader who has been married to Jerry for 61 years and enjoys gardening\, painting\, and spending time with her family and friends.

SUMMARY:Crystal Bowl Sound Meditation for Community + Connection
DESCRIPTION:Join Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection\, and to learn the basics of meditation and to experience a crystal bowl sound bath. \nPart meditation\, part listening exercise\, Sound Baths are healing musical performances played with crystal singing bowls and chimes. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nSpecial note: Beginning in 2024\, we will be charging a small fee for some of Camille’s meditation classes. The first session of each month will remain free\, so please use that as an opportunity to introduce friends to the practice of mindfulness and meditation. Space is limited so please reserve your spot for the free community class each month; and if you book a spot and can no longer attend\, please cancel your reservation to allow someone from our wait list to share in this experience. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. She is also a graduate of the acclaimed Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course. Camille is the author of two self-help books\, “Hippiebanker: Bringing Peace\, Love and Spirituality to the Workplace” and her latest book\, “Firefly Culture: Illuminate Your Workplace by Tuning in to Mindfulness.” She leads fun and informative classes and workshops on mindful meditations and her coaching sessions are infused with down-to-Earth guidance. She is both informative and fun in her approach. SUMMARY:Arts in Health: Live Performance from Central Florida Vocal Arts

SUMMARY:Basic Pointed Pen Calligraphy PLUS
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to participate in an in-depth\, three-part series that will provide you with the guidance & time needed to develop this skill.\n\n\nEver watch a calligrapher write and think\, “I wish I could do that!” Get ready to unlock the myths of creating this beautiful art form. Calligraphy is simply knowing how to put together basic strokes to create letters and then words. You will learn these strokes and how to put it all together so that you can confidently make your own cards\, gifts and other special projects. \nYou’re invited to participate in an in-depth\, three-part series that will provide you with the guidance and time needed to develop this skill. \nBy participating in this class\, all the basics of pointed pen calligraphy are covered\, under the careful tutelage of calligrapher Jana Ricci.  There is a commitment to meet once a week for 3 consecutive weeks so there is time for learning\, practicing\, critiquing and producing projects in greater depth. The greatest gift in this course is the opportunity for critique. Many times\, bad habits are formed\, which can derail a whole project. \nYour $60 program fee ($20/class) includes all materials\, a practice book\, your own pen and ink\, and ideas for projects. By the end of this course\, you’ll learn the skills needed to master lower case and capital letters\, as well as an introduction and inspiration to create your own style and flourishes. \nProgram note: You will register once for all three classes (October 15\, 22\, and 29). We are unable to offer single class registration since each class will build upon skills from the previous lessons.    \nThis program is presented by Jana Ricci and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nJana is a self-taught artist and when people took up various new hobbies during COVID\, she honed her talents towards calligraphy. Her philosophy is “Words Matter” so let’s make words look pretty. Calligraphy also gave her the outlet she yearned for at that time– to slow down. She discovered it to be great for relaxing\, reflecting and making something beautiful.

SUMMARY:Crystal Bowl Sound Meditation for Community + Connection
DESCRIPTION:Join Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection throughout the month.\n\n\nJoin Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection\, and to learn the basics of meditation and to experience a crystal bowl sound bath.
