DESCRIPTION:Join us for Exploring the Work of Elisabetta Sirani\, 17th Century Artist (Webinar) on Monday\, April 12 at 11 AM.\n\n\nElisabetta Sirani was a Baroque artist of great talent and lasting influence\, and a creator of beautiful paintings. This trailblazing 17th Century female artist created more than 200 religious and secular works in a career cut short by an early\, unexplained death. Unlike many artists\, she kept a list of her artwork\, allowing us to be inspired and learn more about her work than many other artists. In fact\, one of her paintings was the first by a female artist to be used on a U.S. postal stamp. \nIn this program presented by Leslie Tate Boles\, an art instructor at Rollins College and former CHWB program presenter of “For the Love of Art – Exploring the Works of Lavinia Fontana\,” you’ll explore the art and life of this Bolognese artist and how her artwork impacted many countries and artists\, including English Romantic Poet Percy Shelley. \nBy participating in this program\, you can expect to: \n\nlearn about the influence and life of Elisabetta Sirani.\ngain awareness of the impact of women in the 17th Century — we often think they did not contribute as much as men.\nlearn how the Visual Arts impacts not just our visual pleasure\, but the other forms of art and entertainment.\n\nThis program is presented by Leslie Tate Boles and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nHow to join the Zoom Program: \nUpon registration for this program\, you will receive two emails: \n• One email from Eventbrite: you can either disregard this email or save it for your records. No action needed with this message. \n• One email from the Center for Health & Wellbeing: this email will contain your link to join the Zoom meeting. If you prefer to be left out of the program’s recording\, please leave your camera and microphone off for the duration of the program. \nAbout Your Program Presenter \nLeslie Tate Boles has taught art history for more than two decades. She currently teaches at Rollins College. Her interest lies in Italian and Northern Renaissance Art as well as how women fit into the period and art development. In addition to teaching\, Boles has been a curator at various museums and for Walt Disney Imagineering.

SUMMARY:The Sounds of Science (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Sounds of Science (Webinar) on Thursday\, March 18 at 1 PM.\n\n\nBuzz\, crackle\, bang! Whether we enjoy life’s simple symphony of sounds or not\, it is all around us. Critical to our way of life\, the sounds we hear have a science behind it that is powerful and deafening; musicians have studied the science of these vibrations to create the musical masterpieces we enjoy today. Join Rollins College Physics Professor Thomas Moore as he shares these findings\, introducing you to the science of sound through the study of musical instruments. In this virtual demonstration\, Professor Moore will discuss how musical instruments make sound and why some combinations of notes sound pleasing and some don’t. \nBy participating in this program\, you can expect to also learn: \n\nhow sound is produced by moving air;\nhow sounds can interfere with each other;\nand why some sounds “fit together” well and are pleasing to listen to and some do not.\n\nThis program is presented by Thomas Moore and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nHow to join the Zoom Program: \nUpon registration for this program\, you will receive two emails: \nOne email from Eventbrite: you can either disregard this email or save it for your records. No action needed with this message. \nOne email from the Center for Health & Wellbeing: this email will contain your link to join the Zoom meeting. Simply select the link and the Zoom Meeting will launch. Please allow yourself five – 10 minutes before program start to launch Zoom and confirm your technology is properly working. \nFor troubleshooting and other Zoom-related questions\, please email us at programs@yourhealthandwellbeing.org \nBy participating in this program\, you agree to the CHWB’s Gracious Space policy. Unless otherwise noted\, all CHWB Digital Education programs hosted via Zoom are recorded and made available for on-demand viewing on WellbeingNetwork.org. If you prefer to be left out of the program’s recording\, please leave your camera and microphone off for the duration of the program. \nAbout Your Program Presenter \nProfessor Thomas Moore is the Archibald Granville Bush professor of Science and a professor of Physics at Rollins College. Dr. Moore is a graduate of Stetson University and holds a Ph.D. in optics from the University of Rochester as well as a Master of Science in Nuclear Physics from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and was the 2013 Florida Professor of the Year. Before coming to Rollins\, Dr. Moore served 21 years as an officer in the U.S. Army\, was a research associate at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory\, and taught physics at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Professor Moore’s diverse research interests range from the physics of musical instruments to the effectiveness of face masks in reducing the spread of COVID-19.
