SUMMARY:Crystal Bowl Sound Meditation for Community + Connection
DESCRIPTION:Join Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection throughout the month.\n\n\nJoin Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection\, and to learn the basics of meditation and to experience a crystal bowl sound bath. \nPart meditation\, part listening exercise\, Sound Baths are healing musical performances played with crystal singing bowls and chimes. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nSpecial note: Beginning in 2024\, we will be charging a small fee for some of Camille’s meditation classes. The first session of each month will remain free\, so please use that as an opportunity to introduce friends to the practice of mindfulness and meditation. Study after study shows it is key to maintaining a healthy weight (even better than cardio!)\, builds vital bone strength\, and improves your flexibility and endurance. \nDumbbells can be your best tool for these workouts\, but many are intimidated by them. How do you use them? What are some effective but simple-to-follow exercises? Gain confidence while gaining strength in this class led by Crosby Wellness Center group fitness instructor Julie Rooth. \nIn this class\, you will be using dumbbells to learn how to build and tone your muscles. The workout will include upper and lower body work\, with some core strengthening exercises mixed in. This class is open to people of all ages and fitness levels. Breath practices for health and performance have been used by countless cultures around the globe for thousands of years. \nThe Oxygen Advantage program teaches you how to modify your breathing in numerous ways to benefit your health\, increase energy\, and dramatically improve your sports performance. The class is designed to accommodate anyone looking to improve their breathing\, including those suffering from Long COVID\, breath health issues\, as well as recreational athletes. \nIn this introductory class\, Crosby Wellness Center group fitness instructor Alan Zemel will provide an overview of these techniques\, as well as the science behind these practices. \nBenefits in learning these techniques may include: \n\nIncreased athletic performance (many professional athletes train in OA methods)\nAbility to manage anxiety\nAbility to overcome obstructive sleep apnea and snoring\nAbility to trigger your body’s relaxation response where choline-based chemicals are released.\n\nLearn the biomechanics and biochemistry of breathing and exercises that will allow you to have direct\, conscious control of your lungs\, perhaps the most important organ in the body. \nThrough the Oxygen Advantage course\, you will learn the science behind why these practices work\, as well as modern functional breathing techniques that will allow you to obtain the health and wellness benefits. \nThis program is presented by Alan Zemel and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nAlan Zemel works with the Winter Park Health Foundation\, Center for Health & Wellbeing\, CanoHealth\, Westminster Retirement Community\, and the Veteran’s Administration. Through his company\, Veteran’s Health Pathways (www.veteranshealthpathways.com). Mr. Zemel teaches employees of the Veterans Administration (doctors\, acupuncturists\, massage therapists and others) and teaches them the skills necessary to help our nation’s veterans overcome post-traumatic stress\, lung damage from burn pits\, and traumatic brain injury among other ailments. Upon completion of each course and demonstration of proficiency\, students receive certifications to coach veterans. \nMr. Zemel is a Senior Teacher-Trainer with The Healer Within Foundation and the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi (IIQTC). Mr. Zemel is also a certified teacher with Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute\, and a certified Senior Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing Coach with the Oxygen Research Institute\, Ltd. Mr. Zemel has been engaged with holistic health care modalities for over 25 years. DESCRIPTION:Join licensed mental health counselor Alison Issen as she examines the nature of regret and how to use those lessons to move forward.\n\n\nThe Coulda’s\, Woulda’s\, and Shoulda’s of life can keep us locked into a painful and limiting view of ourselves and those we care about. \nIn this workshop\, “Finding Lessons in Our Regrets\,” licensed mental health counselor Alison Issen will examine the nature of regret and how to use those lessons to move forward. \nAccording to Alison\, our regrets tend to fall into distinct categories of action or inaction\, not following our core values\, choices that damaged relationships\, and choices that favored short-term gratification over long-term gain. Although we live in a society that preaches “no regrets!” and “don’t look back\,” reframing our perceived failures and hurts\, and finding the meanings or lessons within our more difficult experiences can help us move forward with intention towards a more fulfilling future with more compassion for self and others. \nThis program is presented by Alison Issen and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nAlison C. Issen has a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida\, and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor\, as well as a Registered Nurse. Alison recently retired as the outpatient counselor at Orlando Health/UFHealth Cancer Center. For several years\, Alison coordinated the Sage-ing Center\, a program that encourages and supports adults of all ages\, and particularly those in the second half of life\, to inventory\, evaluate\, and intentionally plan a life of purpose\, learning\, fulfillment\, and community service. Alison brought this comprehensive program to the hospice several years ago and developed Hospice of the Comforter’s Quality of Life Education Program. Alison has taught psychology at the college level and has worked in the field of health and wellness for over 35 years\, including over 10 years as a hospice nurse and counselor. Her specialty areas include stress management\, grief and loss\, end-of-life\, aging and relationship issues\, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy\, and Positive Psychology. Beyond her professional life\, Alison is an “extreme gardener\,” volunteers at a local animal shelter\, and performs with local singing and theatre groups.

DESCRIPTION:Join Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection throughout the month.\n\n\nJoin Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection\, and to learn the basics of meditation and to experience a crystal bowl sound bath. \nPart meditation\, part listening exercise\, Sound Baths are healing musical performances played with crystal singing bowls and chimes. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. He received his bachelor’s degrees from the University of North Florida in the studies of Classical voice and in Jazz Studies\, primary instrument being voice. \nHe has performed and in countless concerts\, major roles in numerous operas\, oratorios and theatrical productions\, and has toured with different groups in many different countries\, including: the University of North Florida and University of British Columbia Opera ensembles in two separate productions in the Czech Republic; the University of North Florida Chorale 2010 tour of Italy; the St. John’s Cathedral Choir of Jacksonville 2014 tour of Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral; a contract with Carnival Cruise Lines; and numerous shows with the Orlando Philharmonic and Opera Orlando. \nHe has performed onstage with a number of noted artists and ensembles\, including The Royal Symphony of England\, Reggie Wooten\, Coolio\, Ben Folds and Andrea Bocelli. \nIn 2015 Bryan released his first album of original compositions entitled “This Is Me.” Bryan aspires to continue a career of performance and composition. Ashley completed her master’s in music therapy at Florida State University\, focusing on research in music therapy for performers. With a specialization in medical music therapy\, she gained clinical experience from working with premature infants in the NICU to adults in various healthcare settings such as ICU\, ER\, labor & delivery\, cardiac\, and oncology. Ashley has also worked with individuals with Parkinson’s\, Alzheimer’s\, dementia\, and in hospice care\, along with providing various levels of music therapy for wellness. Her contributions in medical settings include supervising pre-interns\, assisting in graduate research\, and directing a Parkinson’s Awareness Choir.  \n   \nBeyond her clinical work\, Ashley has embraced various roles\, beginning as an Arts in Medicine practicum student in behavioral health during her undergraduate years at UCF and continuing as a community-based counselor for adolescents at Memorial Community Youth Services in South Florida. She found the medication was only masking her symptoms and she searched for ways to heal her body. Coming off the medication was not easy\, and her body is still healing. Moringa was the first thing she used to help in her healing journey. Her mission is to educate others on how plants can be a part of a healthy healing diet. She offers free classes to children and adults at her not-for-profit food forest farm Momma G Farms\, located in Eustis\, Florida. She has been growing and using Moringa for over 10 years.

With a specialization in medical music therapy\, she gained clinical experience from working with premature infants in the NICU to adults in various healthcare settings such as ICU\, ER\, labor & delivery\, cardiac\, and oncology. Ashley has also worked with individuals with Parkinson’s\, Alzheimer’s\, dementia\, and in hospice care\, along with providing various levels of music therapy for wellness. Her contributions in medical settings include supervising pre-interns\, assisting in graduate research\, and directing a Parkinson’s Awareness Choir.  \n   \nBeyond her clinical work\, Ashley has embraced various roles\, beginning as an Arts in Medicine practicum student in behavioral health during her undergraduate years at UCF and continuing as a community-based counselor for adolescents at Memorial Community Youth Services in South Florida. Parenting does not come with a handbook or the tools to know how to manage and support the challenges that arise while raising children. Society has many expectations about how to raise healthy\, confident\, and resilient children; yet parents are constantly judged by the actions and choices of their children. \nLed by current mental health counselors from the CHILL program at Orange County Public Schools\, this educational seminar will teach you strategies for positive parenting. This presentation will define and review different parenting styles so you can find the right fit for yourself and your children. You will learn how to promote a positive relationship with your children and manage specific behaviors by age and stage. \nAdditionally\, you will learn strategies to help move yourself as a parent towards confidence and leadership\, learn how to increase communication through child centered time\, and learn how to trouble shoot for issues such as sibling rivalry\, anxiety\, and tantrums. \nThis program is presented by CHILL Counselors and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nThe CHILL (Community Help & Intervention in Life’s Lessons) program in Orange County Public Schools was founded in 1998 by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the 12 Orange County Public School serving Winter Park\, Maitland and Eatonville. CHILL provides free\, confidential\, in-school counseling to students and their families. It is part of a collection of school-based health and wellness services supported by WPHF called the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI).
