In honor of Nutrition Month at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, Debbie Zimmerman\, Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Instructor\, will share a how-to on preparing your own personalized Buddha Bowl – a highly diversified\, plant-based nutritional meal – for you and your family. Zimmerman will mix and match 10 different ingredients from five food categories — Grains\, Starchy and Non-Starchy Vegetables\, Legumes\, Fruit and Salad dressing — while also discussing techniques for prepping and packaging weekly meals that fit seamlessly into your on-the-go lifestyle. She was co-owner of Good Life Cafe and Catering\, a sustainable food business from 1996 to 2013. She is a 2009 Archibald Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow and completed her Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition at the University of Minnesota in 2011 while working to build strong networks within health and food systems for greater access to food\, support for sustainable farming\, and understanding of cooking as a health strategy. Her first cookbook\, “Cooking up the Good Life”\, emphasizes local\, seasonal whole foods cooking for families and was released in April of 2011 from the University of Minnesota Press. Chef Breen currently teaches three courses at the University of Minnesota\, including an online undergraduate course called “Food Choices: Healing the Earth\, Healing Ourselves” and a graduate level cooking course for health professional students called “Food Matters: Cook Like Your Life Depends on It\,” both through the Bakken Center. She also teaches an undergraduate nutrition cooking class\, “A Food Systems Approach to Cooking” through the Healthy Foods\, Healthy Lives Institute in College of Food\, Agricultural\, and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). She contracts as a Public Health culinary nutrition educator with local health departments\, school districts and nonprofit food and farming organizations.

Hebni’s mission is to provide culturally appropriate nutrition education and intervention strategies to prevent diet-related diseases. Her company is widely known for the development of the original Soul Food Pyramid and the Soul Food Plate\, a culturally sensitive food guide nutrition tool. Hebni’s programs\, educational tools\, and diabetes cookbooks have been featured by the Orlando Sentinel\, USA Today\, Newsweek\, Today’s Dietician\, CNN\, and televised on shows such as “On the Menu” and “Woman’s Today.” \n Weaver is also a registered and licensed dietician. She received her Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida. She holds her Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Saint Francis. \nWeaver keeps a busy schedule lecturing nationally and instructing locally on various nutrition topics and current health issues related to food and nutrition. Additionally\, she served on the National Board for the American Diabetes Association(ADA); National Advocacy Committee for ADA\, Past-Trustee for Health Central Hospital\, and West Orange County District\, Board Member for Florida Hospital Community Health Impact Council\, and Board of Directors for the Central Florida Partnership in Health Disparities. Her many contributions have been recognized by receipt of the President’s Award from the National Medical Association Auxiliary\, the African American Chamber and the President’s Award for Alum of the Year from the President of The University of St. Francis in Joliet\, IL.

She was co-owner of Good Life Cafe and Catering\, a sustainable food business from 1996 to 2013. She is a 2009 Archibald Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow and completed her Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition at the University of Minnesota in 2011 while working to build strong networks within health and food systems for greater access to food\, support for sustainable farming\, and understanding of cooking as a health strategy. Her first cookbook\, “Cooking up the Good Life”\, emphasizes local\, seasonal whole foods cooking for families and was released in April of 2011 from the University of Minnesota Press. \nChef Breen currently teaches three courses at the University of Minnesota\, including an online undergraduate course called “Food Choices: Healing the Earth\, Healing Ourselves” and a graduate level cooking course for health professional students called “Food Matters: Cook Like Your Life Depends on It\,” both through the Bakken Center. She also teaches an undergraduate nutrition cooking class\, “A Food Systems Approach to Cooking” through the Healthy Foods\, Healthy Lives Institute in College of Food\, Agricultural\, and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). She contracts as a Public Health culinary nutrition educator with local health departments\, school districts and nonprofit food and farming organizations.
