Today\, it’s increasingly difficult to see the stars from our homes. \nLight pollution — the inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light — is the most avoidable form of pollution. It can negatively impact many aspects of our lives\, including the environment\, our health and our energy consumption. In Florida\, light pollution is causing serious issues for wildlife\, especially migrating animals like birds\, sea turtles\, butterflies and bees. How can you help? Steven Miller\, from International Dark-Sky Association\, will cover this topic\, sharing ways you can combat light pollution even in your own backyard. \nThis program is presented by Steven Miller and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in collaboration with IDEAS For Us. \nA note regarding COVID-19 safety protocols: At this time\, all guests at the Center for Health & Wellbeing are required to wear masks in all indoor spaces\, including during our education programs. Attendees\, however\, must keep their masks fully in place (covering the nose and mouth) during the entire presentation. Not just any photographer\, Miller includes night sky portraits for his clients! He makes sure to bring his laser pointer to point out constellations and also illustrate the skyglow domes surrounding the area. He brings people out to International Dark-Sky places in Florida and shares information about the International Dark-Sky Association to everyone he works with. Miller is interested in implementing a yard-sign program that identifies homes with dark sky friendly lighting. \nAbout the Presenting Organizations \nAbout the International Dark-Sky Association \nThe International Dark-Sky Association is the recognized authority on light pollution and is the leading organization combating light pollution worldwide. SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Meditation: Beginner's Mind and Trust (In Person)
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for Mindfulness and Meditation: Beginner’s Mind and Trust on Tuesday\, January 18 at 7 PM in Community Conference Room B.\n\n\nSpecial Note: Participants are encouraged to attend each week session of the four-week program\, but it is not a requirement. You may sign up for any of the four programs without attending the others. \nThis four-week program with Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco will introduce you to the concepts of mindfulness and meditation. You’ll learn practical tips and simple tools to transform your home and work life into the place it deserves to be. Each week\, you’ll learn a little something different about mindfulness and meditation. \nIn order to cultivate a true understanding and get the most out of your practice\, it’s important for your mind to be open and receptive. It is the soil in which we will effectively cultivate daily practices that will inspire confidence in the pursuit of living our lives with a higher purpose. \nDuring each session\, you will discuss two attitudes and how they relate to mindfulness. You’ll also practice a meditation each week and leave time at the end of the class for discussion and takeaways. Together\, this will constitute the foundation upon which you will be able to build a strong mindful meditation practice of your own. \nIn week two\, you will cover: \n\nAttitudes: Beginner’s Mind and Trust\nMeditation: Body Scan\n\n\nAttendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one.
