SUMMARY:Music for a Joyful Life
DESCRIPTION:Join Central Florida Vocal Arts Executive Director Theresa Smith-Levin as we explore the role that music can play in creating a joyful life.\n\n\nJoin life-long Winter Park resident and Central Florida Vocal Arts Executive Director Theresa Smith-Levin as we explore the role that music can play in creating a joyful life for EVERYONE. No previous musical experience is needed. \nFollowing an introductory program on August 24\, the classes will be held biweekly beginning in September. You are welcome to stop in for just one class or each time we meet. Classes will explore music-making\, listening and understanding. Some of the lesson plans include: \nRaise Your Voice \nHave you ever watched a child sing and dance with reckless abandon? When was the last time you used your voice so freely? In this class\, we will explore our own sound and reflect on what parts of our life keep our creativity inhibited. Through reflection\, inspiration and experiential music-making\, we will grow to understand why singing and music might feel intimidating\, while working together to begin our own musical journey\, free of self-judgement. \nFrom Vision to Voice \nArt inspires. Art can change lives. This class will begin with visioning our most creative\, most joyful life\, drawing inspiration through song. Much like affirmations\, we will use song as a catalyst for growth and positive change. \nMake A Joyful Noise \nA creative mind is a healthy mind. Music-making challenges our brains to develop new ways of thinking and neuro-plasticity. In a group setting\, we will discover our own unique vocal sound and how by embracing our unique voice\, we find self-acceptance and deep joy. \nThis program is presented by Theresa Smith-Levin and teaching artists from Central Florida Vocal Arts and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nTheresa Smith-Levin is the founder and Executive Director of Central Florida Vocal Arts and its sister company\, Opera del Sol\, whose mission is to create a better Central Florida community through the arts. She is an alumnae of the American Express Women in Music Leadership\, Athena NextGen Leadership and Leadership Winter Park\, Class 29. She currently serves on the LWP Alumni Council\, Park Avenue District Executive Board\, the National Association of Teachers of Singing\, the Arts and Culture Alliance of Winter Park and the Woman’s Club of Winter Park. \nShe was also named one of Orlando Family Magazine’s Superwomen of 2022. \nMost recently\, Theresa was recognized as one of 2023 Winter Park Magazine’s Most Influential and as a finalist for Inspirational Deeva of the Year by Women on the Rise International. She is a sought after producer\, performer\, director and music director. With her husband Brent\, Theresa is proud parent to Bodhi (5) and Beckham (3)\, who are her greatest inspiration! \nCentral Florida Vocal Arts is a non-profit music advocacy organization dedicated to providing the highest quality training to young artists\, while also providing performance opportunities to currently emerging artists of all ages. We are creating a continuing life cycle for the vocal arts in Central Florida through a three-step model. The first step\, Education and Training\, introduces young artists to the arts. Through our educational initiatives\, we develop students’ talent\, passion\, and confidence. Next\, our Mainstage Productions provide a transition period for students ages 8-18 and pre-professional adults to emerge on stage alongside local professional artists. Our life cycle culminates with Opera del Sol\, offering innovative productions in unexpected places and challenging perceptions of who the operatic performer and audience members are and what defines the genre as a whole. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process. SUMMARY:Crystal Bowl Sound Meditation for Community + Connection
DESCRIPTION:Join Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection\, and to learn the basics of meditation.\n\n\nJoin Certified Meditation Instructor Camille Sacco for community + connection\, and to learn the basics of meditation and to experience a crystal bowl sound bath. \nPart meditation\, part listening exercise\, Sound Baths are healing musical performances played with crystal singing bowls and chimes. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. She is also a graduate of the acclaimed Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course. Camille is the author of two self-help books\, “Hippiebanker: Bringing Peace\, Love and Spirituality to the Workplace” and her latest book\, “Firefly Culture: Illuminate Your Workplace by Tuning in to Mindfulness.” She leads fun and informative classes and workshops on mindful meditations and her coaching sessions are infused with down-to-Earth guidance. She is both informative and fun in her approach. Her goal is to help people tap in to the wisdom of their soul by cultivating daily practices that will inspire confidence in the pursuit of living their lives with a higher purpose.
SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Breath Work
DESCRIPTION:It’s the Five Days of Fitmas! Join us December 11- 15\, for a special holiday-themed class led by your favorite Crosby instructors.\n\n\nIt’s the Five Days of Fitmas! Join us every day\, from December 11 through December 15\, 11 am to noon\, for a special holiday-themed class led by your favorite Crosby Wellness Center instructors. These classes are designed to help keep you on track with your health goals this holiday season while still enjoying the fun and joy this time of year has to offer. \nLearn how to lower your blood pressure\, reduce your heart rate\, and increase cardiovascular circulation by taking as few as five modified breaths. Synchronize this with some gentle movement to increase your balance\, improve proprioception\, and increase lymphatic system circulation and you have the keys to better health and vitality. \nIn this science and skill-based practice-hour\, Crosby Wellness Center instructor Alan Zemel will show you why Qigong (breath work) and Tai Chi (slow intentional movement) trigger the body’s relaxation and healing mechanisms. Through his presentation\, Alan will show you the science behind these practices using anatomical illustrations and data from recent fMRI studies and quantitative research. Paramount to learning these ancient practices is understanding why they work from a science-oriented perspective. Much of what we have been taught about breathing is incorrect because the physiologic truth is counter-intuitive. \nIn this hour\, you will learn a modified breathing technique and the methodology for linking it to some basic Tai Chi movements\, allowing you to discover why Tai Chi is often called “meditation in movement.” More importantly\, you will walk away with some skills which\, when used daily\, can change the quality of your life and how you live it. \nThis program is presented by Alan Zemel and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nAlan Zemel works with the Winter Park Health Foundation\, Center for Health & Wellbeing\, CanoHealth\, Westminster Retirement Community\, and the Veteran’s Administration. Through his company\, Veteran’s Health Pathways (www.veteranshealthpathways.com). Mr. Zemel teaches employees of the Veterans Administration (doctors\, acupuncturists\, massage therapists and others) and teaches them the skills necessary to help our nation’s veterans overcome post-traumatic stress\, lung damage from burn pits\, and traumatic brain injury among other ailments. Upon completion of each course and demonstration of proficiency\, students receive certifications to coach veterans. \nMr. Zemel is a Senior Teacher-Trainer with The Healer Within Foundation and the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi (IIQTC). Mr. Zemel is also a certified teacher with Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute\, and a certified Senior Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing Coach with the Oxygen Research Institute\, Ltd. Mr. Zemel has been engaged with holistic health care modalities for over 25 years. Mr. Zemel’s classes incorporate various breath and movement techniques that teach students how to take control of their own physiology to improve health\, vitality\, and overall wellbeing. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process. \nAfter a full week of rocking around the Christmas tree\, it’s time to quiet your soul with a relaxing guided meditation and sound healing experience. Under the careful guidance of Crosby Wellness Center group exercise instructor Nicole Elliot\, you will participate in sound therapy\, which has existed across cultures and throughout history to promote health and wellbeing. \nResearch shows that sound healing therapy can minimize and relieve pain\, stimulate the immune system\, reduce stress and improve mental and emotional clarity. \nYou will be guided through meditation in a seated or reclined position and experience a crystal bowl sound bath. As you relax\, crystal bowls resonate with the crystalline structure of your cells to balance your body’s electromagnetic field\, cleanse and strengthen the energy you radiate\, and promote a deeper sense of calm. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees are encouraged to sit or recline on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one.
