SUMMARY:Balance 101 Part 1: Basic Balance
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a two-part series designed to help you build and maintain balance throughout your life.\n\n\nBalance is something we may not think about until we start to lose it. Poor balance does not have to be inevitable as we age; there are many things you can start incorporating into your daily routine at any age to help keep you balanced for life. In this interactive workshop\, led by Crosby Wellness Center’s Dawn Marzock\, we will discuss posture and how we can strengthen our core and legs for balance to become easier\, gain our confidence in different mobility situations and importantly reduce risk of falls. \nProgram notes: Dress comfortably to move. All levels welcome. Chair available. Dawn will be hosting two balance related workshops – on June 20 and June 27 — that are built on each other but can be taken independently. No prerequisite. Join us for one or both. \nThis program is presented by Dawn Marzlock and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nDawn Marie is a group certified exercise instructor at the Crosby Wellness Center. She holds a B.A. in communications from U.C.F. and has been sharing fitness instruction for more than 20 years in the community\, teaching mindful movement classes for all ages and levels. Her approach is holistic\, engaging body\, mind and spirit. She modifies for all levels. Her classes are fun and informative\, easy to follow\, and she believes it is never too late to take that first step to begin exercise at any age. Her company\, Transformative Solutions\, brings fitness to any size group organization/business to make a custom fitness plan. “ Take the first step to exercise in a group class\, have fun\, learn something new and enjoy better quality of life.”

SUMMARY:All About the Vagus Nerve
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you’ll learn how the Vagus Nerve serves a crucial role in your overall wellbeing and how yoga helps you better regulate it\n\n\nThe conversation around the vagus nerve and its importance has become increasingly frequent in recent years. The vagus nerve is the largest cranial nerve in the body and is a key part of your autonomic nervous system\, specifically the parasympathetic “rest and digest” nervous system. It influences your breathing\, digestive function\, heart rate and fight or flight response\, all of which can significantly impact physical and mental health. \nThis program will be led by the Crosby Wellness Center’s Joy Henderson\, a seasoned fitness professional who holds certifications in yoga\, Pilates\, spin and sports medicine training. This program will be split into two sections: in part 1\, Henderson will lead an in-depth discussion on this important aspect of your wellbeing; in part 2\, she’ll provide instructional examples via yoga modalities to help you learn how to better regulate the inter-related systemic mind-body mechanisms\, specifically the vagus nerve’s role in contributing to improved body-mind awareness\, physical and mental regulation and decreased reactivity to stressful stimuli. All yoga poses will be practiced on a chair. \nSpecial Instructions: Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in this program; no prior yoga experience required. Attendees are encouraged to bring a notepad and pen or pencil for taking notes and their own bottles of water. \nThis program is presented by Joy Henderson and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nJoy Henderson is a seasoned fitness professional who holds certifications in yoga\, pilates\, Spin and sports medicine training. She also holds an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and an M.Ed. Joy’s areas of expertise are somatic awareness and a whole wellness approach. She has a specific passion working with a person’s with chronic illness and aging.
