DESCRIPTION:Join this poetry workshop\, hosted by CFCArts teaching artist Chris Hicks\, and learn about new and traditional ways to write poetry.\n\n\nWhen was the last time you read a poem? Have you ever tried writing your own? There’s no time like the present to learn how to write poetry! Studies show it’s not just good for your health to enjoy the arts; participating in the creation of art can have numerous health benefits. A recent Harvard Health Publishing article\, a publication of Harvard Medical School\, said expressing yourself through art can help those with depression\, anxiety or cancer. In fact\, creative activities have been linked to improved memory\, reasoning and resilience in healthy older adults. \nNow that you know why you should write poetry\, come to this poetry workshop\, hosted by Central Florida Community Arts teaching artist Chris Hicks\, and learn about new and traditional ways to write poetry. \nThis program is presented by Chris Hicks and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nChris Hicks relocated to Orlando from the Chicago area\, where she headed up a highly recognized high school theatre program and taught Honors and Advanced Placement English classes. Chris has a bachelor’s degree in Speech/ Theatre from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in Teaching from National Louis University. Chris’ involvement with CFCArts includes teaching the Narrators! class as well as creative writing and acting workshops throughout the community. In her spare time\, she enjoys costuming and performing with theaters\, most notably as Ethyl in “On Golden Pond” and Mae Peterson in “Bye Bye Birdie\,” where she was recognized by the Orlando Sentinel as one of Orlando Theatre’s Best of 2019 Performers.

Would you like to feel more confident about your use of essential oils? In this class\, you will begin with the basics of safety and move into the myriad ways essential oils can be utilized. Studies support many first-aid applications as well as a spectrum of uses\, including: muscle aches\, immune boosting\, mood support and more. Learn about a variety of oils\, such as floral oils\, citrus oils\, anti-microbial oils\, and multiple methods of use. \nScent samples will be provided to enhance your experience. These complex aromatic compounds can play a vital role in your wellness journey. Learn how to best incorporate them to suit your needs and wellbeing goals. \nThis program is presented by Judy Minear and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nJudy Minear\, a retired RN\, is certified in aromatherapy. She has shared her knowledge via classes across Central Florida for 12 years. The loss of a spouse or partner is one of the most stressful events someone can experience\, and it’s a pain that can last years or even decades. But hope is available. Discover new friendships and resources to empower your widowhood journey. Recent research shows that widows who find compassionate\, resilient communities focused on holistic health will activate more hope\, healing and growth. Led by widow advocate Carolyn Moor\, you will gain insight on the 10 key factors of building resilience in widowhood — eight of these you can do on your own\, but two require you to go outside yourself. She’s been featured on TED\, Oprah Show\, CBS Sunday Morning\, Psychology Today\, NPR and WSJ.
