DESCRIPTION:In honor of this month’s National Gumbo Day\, celebrate the flavors of Cajun cooking with Chef Collette Haw.\n\n\nWith its roots in French cuisine and rich\, robust flavors derived from the tradition of Southern cooking along the Louisiana bayous\, authentic Cajun food is easily made healthy if you know what swaps to make and spices to use. In honor of this month’s National Gumbo Day\, celebrate the flavors of Cajun cooking – and learn how to put a heathy spin on without sacrificing any of the flavor – alongside Chef Collette in the CHWB Nutrition Theatre. \nThis is a demonstration-style cooking program\, so prepare to sit back\, relax and let our chef prepare the meal while you enjoy the delicious items. While attending this program\, participants will receive a booklet for the following recipes: \n\nRed Beans\nDirty Rice\nGumbo\nHoppin’ John\n\n  \nThis program is presented by Chef Collette Haw and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter  \nChef Collette Haw is a classically trained Culinary Institute of America graduate. With a passion for seasonal\, sustainable cooking\, Chef Haw approaches her cooking with a passion for blending comfort-food-gone-healthy and ‘food as medicine’ philosophies. Chef Haw spent several years operating her own successful meal delivery service out of Longwood—Collette’s Clean Eats—and as a private chef to a celebrity family in Atlanta before launching Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen at the Center for Health & Wellbeing. For its first three years in operation\, she created the café’s beloved seasonal menus. \nNow a new mom\, Chef Haw is returning to her passion of recipe development for local businesses and organizations in Central Florida. SUMMARY:The Basics of Mat Pilates
DESCRIPTION:Led by Crosby Wellness Center Pilates instructor Meghan Juras\, you’ll learn the basics of Mat Pilates\, including modifications.\n\n\nPilates was developed in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates\, who practiced the full-body fitness regime well into his 80s and coined the phrase “Pilates is the exercise for a lifetime.” In this program led by Crosby Wellness Center Pilates instructor Meghan Juras\, you’ll learn the basics of Mat Pilates as Joseph developed it\, including modifications for limitations and injuries. You’ll slow down and work on your form while focusing on the six principles of Pilates: Control\, Concentration\, Centering\, Precision\, Flow\, and Breath. \nProgram Notes: Participants in this program should bring their own yoga mats. \nThis program is presented by Meghan Juras and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center. \nAbout the Program Presenter  \nMeghan Juras was certified in 2008 as a Classical Pilates Instructor through Classical Pilates USA (formerly the United States Pilates Association.) Her apprenticeship included more than 700 hours of intensive observation and training with Master “2nd Generation” Teachers Jennifer O’Mara\, Brett Howard\, and David Freeman. A Crosby Wellness Center instructor\, Meghan has been teaching Pilates for 14 years and has worked with a variety of clientele\, including those recovering from injuries\, expectant and postpartum mothers\, athletes\, dancers\, the elderly population\, and Pilates enthusiasts like herself. \n  \n
