SUMMARY:Journal Writing and Neuroplasticity (In Person)
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Journal Writing and Neuroplasticity” on Thursday\, June 2 at 11 AM in the Community Conference Center.\n\n\nJournaling is not only helpful to improving your Emotional Wellbeing\, but it can also help boost your brain health. In this workshop led by Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Nurse Alison Issen\, you’ll learn about the brain science behind therapeutic writing. There will be exercises and tools presented\, which will link the practice of keeping a journal with supporting and promoting changes in our brains that can enhance wellbeing and establish positive change. \nBy participating in this session\, you can expect to: \n\ndemonstrate an understanding of journal writing as a therapeutic technique.\ngain knowledge of journal writing techniques to be used for personal and professional enrichment.\npersonally experience journal writing exercises as a tool for growth\, creativity and positive changes in the brain.\n\nSpecial Instructions: Journals are not required\, but participants are asked to bring paper and a pen or pencil for note-taking. \nThis program is presented by Alison Issen and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nCanceling Your Reservation: If you are unable to attend a program\, canceling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs\, canceling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place. Issen is a licensed mental health counselor as well as a registered nurse. She is recently retired as the outpatient counselor at Orlando Health/UF Health Cancer Center. For several years\, she coordinated the Sage-ing Center\, a program which encourages and supports adults of all ages\, but particularly those in the second half of life\, to inventory\, evaluate and intentionally plan a life of purpose\, learning\, fulfillment and community service. She brought this comprehensive program to the hospice several years ago and developed Hospice of the Comforter’s Quality of Life Education Program. Issen has taught Psychology at the college level and has worked in the field of health and wellness for more than 35 years\, including more than 10 years as a hospice nurse and counselor. Her areas of specialty include Stress Management\, Grief and Loss\, End-of-Life\, Aging and Relationship Issues\, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and Positive Psychology. Beyond her professional life\, Issen is an “extreme gardener\,” volunteers at a local animal shelter and performs with local singing and theatre groups. Issen holds a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida.

These dimensions are our North Star of true wellbeing and guide and focus on our work. \nWhy is this our approach? Research shows that a balance among the Seven Dimensions of Wellbeing leads to a fuller\, more satisfying life – something we want every person to experience. This class\, led by CHWB Wellbeing Guide Sara Wright\, is an in-depth look at those Seven Dimensions of Wellbeing. She also creates an individualized plan and provides motivational support as each community member works to achieve success along their personal wellbeing journey. Wright has more than 20 years of professional experience\, including the following areas of expertise: Social Services\, Health Education\, Community Relations\, Management\, Personal Training\, and Fitness Coaching. She earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and two bachelor’s degrees. She is passionate about helping others reach their goals and achieve self-empowerment.
