SUMMARY:Creating a Pet Garden (In Person)
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “Creating a Pet Garden” taking place on Wednesday\, June 1 2022 at 1 PM in Community Conference Center.\n\n\nJoin us for Creating a Pet Garden\, a class intended for Florida growers to learn the basics of growing food for your furry friend including the do’s and don’ts of edible plants for animals. This class is led by local horticulturist Caroline Chomanics\, program director at Fleet Farming\, a non-profit program of IDEAS For Us\, where Chomanics also serves as the chief operations officer. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees should bring a notebook and pen for note taking. \nThis program is presented by Caroline Chomanics and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nCanceling Your Reservation: If you are unable to attend a program\, cancelling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs\, cancelling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place. Cancelling can be done in two easy ways: by calling 407.644.2492 and selecting Option 1\, then Option 3 to speak to a representative or by using the online ticket cancellation option in your original confirmation email from Eventbrite. \nBy participating in this program\, you agree to CHWB’s Gracious Space policy. \nAbout the Program Presenter  \nCaroline Chomanics is a passionate horticulturalist in the Central Florida community\, having earned her degree in Landscape and Horticulture Technology from Valencia College and her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainable Urbanism from Rollins College. She acts as chief administrative officer to IDEAS For Us\, a non-profit organization located in Orlando\, FL\, that develops\, funds and scales environmental action projects in the focus areas of energy\, water\, food\, waste\, and ecology. When she is not farming\, Chomanics is honored to be the gardening teacher at Inspiring Minds Day School\, teaching children about the wonders of the natural world. \nShe developed her horticultural skills while living for four years at Nehrling Gardens\, a historic botanical garden\, in Gotha\, Florida. Since 2015\, Chomanics has been a program manager for Fleet Farming\, an urban agriculture program that transforms lawns into farms. \nAbout the Presenting Organization  \nFleet Farming is a non-profit urban agriculture program of IDEAS For Us that transforms the average American lawn into a bio-verse\, productive micro farms and edible gardens. DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for “IDEAS Hive: Public Transit— A Sustainable Solution” on Wednesday\, June 1\, 2022 at 6:45 PM in the Community Center.\n\n\nDo you have complaints toward Orlando’s public transit or are you interested in learning more about the transit services that the City Beautiful offers? Join Anne Lotts\, environmental activist\, and Naqiy Mcmullen\, cofounder of Orlando YIMBY and co-chair of Central Floridians for Public Transit\, as they shed light on several issues regarding Orlando’s public transit while diving into the numerous benefits resulting from improved public transit for the people and environment. \nDuring the second half of this program\, you will work with others in the discussion group to produce your own solutions to the proposed issue discussed by the speakers. You’ll also learn tips on how to advocate for better public transit from your local representative. \nSpecial Note: Learning\, engaging\, and finding solutions. Annie also enjoys working with data. She received a Bachelor of Science from Duke University in Statistics\, and a Master of Science in Data Mining from the University of Central Florida. She grew up near Hawthorne\, Florida\, and has previously interned with IDEAS For Us. Lott has been involved with Central Floridians for Public Transit since the group reinitialized in January of 2022. \nAbout Naqiy Mcmullen \nNaqiy Mcmullen is co-chair of Central Floridians for Public Transit\, which supports building a world-class transit system in Greater Orlando. He is also co-founder of pro-housing organization Orlando YIMBY\, and advocates for better bike infrastructure with Orlando Bike Coalition. Mcmullen is also an Urban Planning student and long-time Orlando resident who wants to make his home better through improved transportation options. \nAbout the Presenting Organizations  \nAbout IDEAS Hive and IDEAS For Us  \nThe IDEAS Hive is an interdisciplinary\, inter-generational community Think + Do Tank developed by IDEAS For Us\, an Orlando-based grassroots non-profit organization\, which is designed to educate the public about sustainability and help develop ideas into local action projects. The IDEAS Hive meets in communities to grow stakeholders and educate them around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
