DESCRIPTION:Join us for “A Birthday Celebration for the Incomparable Zora Neale Hurston (Webinar)” on Friday\, January 7\, 2022 at 1 PM.\n\n\nOn January 7\, 1891\, Zora Neale Hurston was born. During her life\, the prolific writer’s works were largely ignored. Though\, over the past 50 years\, her place in history has been firmly established. In this celebratory discussion\, you’ll be introduced to the legacy of Hurston\, as well as the ways she revolutionized Black and American culture. Join Author and Hurston scholar Rae Chesny as she brings Hurston to life in this engaging talk through a blend of storytelling and detailed information. \nBy participating in this session\, you can expect to: \n\nlearn about Hurston’s connections to Florida.\nlearn about the ways Hurston used storytelling and folklore to change Black and American culture.\nleave the presentation feeling inspired by Hurston’s life and work.\n\nThis program is presented by Rae Chesny and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nHow to join the Zoom Program: \nUpon registration for this program\, you will receive two emails: \n\nOne email from Eventbrite: you can either disregard this email or save it for your records. If you prefer to be left out of the program’s recording\, please leave your camera and microphone off for the duration of the program. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nRae Chesny is an award-winning social education expert\, author\, Johns Hopkins University Literary Consultant\, and Zora Neale Hurston Scholar. Each year\, she splits her time researching\, writing about\, and presenting literary great Zora Neale Hurston while writing her own titles of poetry\, folklore\, fiction\, and creative fiction. \nRae is a 2021 Baldwin House Urban Writer in Residence. She also served as the keynote speaker for the 2021 YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region Empowerment Symposium. Rae’s work has been published in Harness Magazine\, and she has been featured in Made Magazine\, Insider\, and in several news stories. Her forthcoming book Dear Zora chronicles her journey into becoming a Zora scholar through research and travels while developing a love for the prolific writer in letter form conversations.
