Caregiving can be one of the greatest experiences of life, caring for someone that you love, but it’s no secret it’s also one of the most stress-filled things that you can do. The average caregiver today is a 46-year-old woman who has a full-time job, and she’s spending 18 to 20 hours in addition to that providing unpaid care for a family member or a loved one. According to the National Institutes of Health, a family caregiver’s risk of experiencing depression is now 30 times greater than that of a non-caregiver. It’s a big challenge. People need help, and it’s getting bigger every day. In fact, 45 million Americans now provide unpaid care to adult relatives and friends.
At this unique session, Growing Bolder Founder/CEO Marc Middleton will interview Amy O’Rourke, an internationally respected advocate for caregivers. Together, they will discuss some of the greatest challenges facing today’s caregivers and will offer real, actionable advice to balance caring for a loved one and remembering your own mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
Amy O’Rourke is Founder and President of The Cameron Group. Amy has over 30 years of experience in health care and 25 in the field of aging. She is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and a Certified Care Manager.
