Project Wellness Welcome Garden and Main Entrance

Late Summer 2016, the Winter Park Health Foundation began the development of Project Wellness – a unique facility bringing together Wellness, Fitness and Medicine in one convenient location. Project Wellness (our working title for the development) will provide a new home for the Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center YMCA which was originally built in 1989. The new facility will also feature a variety of other programs and services designed to make a positive difference in the health of our community.

The Crosby Wellness Center, which was originally built in 1989, closed earlier this month. While Project Wellness is under construction, Crosby Y members are maintaining their fitness routines at other Y facilities and participating in Y exercise classes based at a nearby church.  Kudos to the Crosby Y team for its diligence to ensure members have transition plans in place to remain active and connected until the new facility opens late 2018.

According to Project Wellness general contractor Jack Jennings & Sons, site preparation – including demolition of the old wellness center building – will begin in January 2017. A construction fence has been installed around the entire perimeter of the Project Wellness site.  This includes new road closures on Mizell Avenue and Perth Lane.

Early in the first quarter of 2017, the road construction and realignment underway on the southwest side of the Project Wellness site is set for completion, and the new street will be dedicated and reopened by the City of Winter Park.  The next milestone in the development of Project Wellness will be the official groundbreaking for construction of the new facility.  This will likely take place before the end of February 2017.
